Have found out that his adoptive father was a Superintendent Registrar BMD, although he didn't ammend certificate could he have been involved? Sounds a bit iffy to me .... |

OC Thanks for your thoughts. As he was adopted his will did mention his former name and talked of a trust so maybe this was why. Yes, it was an official amendment with witnesses etc changing all relevant details of the grooms father. |

Haven't heard of anything like that before, but it sounds quite sad really doesn't it? After the chappie died perhaps they contacted the real father, or the mother did to let him know of his sons death, and he thought it was the least he could do. All speculation, but a nice thought Lynda x |

I take it this is an official amendment, and not just someone in the family altering it? If it is an official amendment, then the first thought that crops up - his natural father had left him some money, but the dead man's relatives needed some official proof that he was the illegitimate son. I do hope that makes sense. It isnt a particularly easy matter to have a certificate amended, so there must have been a good reason - the Registrar would have wanted some sort of proof of that good reason. Mere whim is not enough to get a cert changed. OC |

Does anyone know why a marriage certificate would have been amended after the death of one of the parties married? Marriage took place September 1917. Batchelor died in October 1918. He had been adopted about 1905. Certificate gave fathers details as that of adoptive father but this was amended in February 1919 (four months after death) to show birth fathers details. Anyone else heard of this happening or why? Thanks. |
