Carol it might just mean no witnesses so they used an official stamp instead, though I have never come across this and have many Scottish marriages. Try going in to the help forum on Scotlands People, lot of helpful souls there who may be able to answer you better. You can go in there without paying. Or try nipping in to your local Registrar and see if they know. Good luck Xx |

On a marraige certificate I have found of my g grandparents, in the space where the witnesses are supposed to sign, instead there is a stamp which say's ' Warrant of sherriff-subsitute of lanarkshire. ' Why is this. What does this mean. If anything |
