	Newmarket was quick to follow Ruth Kelly's call for greater local democracy. In a surprise result, the townsfolk voted not for a human being but a retired dray horse called Dolly. 'We're not entirely sure', said a spokesman, 'but we think she might be England's first directly elected mare'. ha ha. Aileen xx
