My wife has bought about a thousand pounds worth of goodies for all the little darlin's, I jest of course, it just seems like it, for when they knock on your door and shout, Trick or Treat, I'd give 'em Trick or Treat lol. How about you. ?

I love Halloween!! I have my Garden decorated with a giant spider, a skellington that lights up, lights hanging from the gutters, in the livingroom window and I've made over 100 little goodie bags. I have loads of kids love it!!! Fiona.x

I bet that looks really nice Fiona, and bet it attracts kids from all over the place. We have kids from about 3years old and upwards, but with Mums and Dads of course, and to see those little un's faces when they have to choose their treats is magical, they just don;t know what to choose.

Baz, It's alot different here than in the UK that's for sure. The kids never come around before Halloween night, everyone of them are dressed up and of course most are with parents. Really don't have too many older kids. And they have a curfew so it all stops at 9pm. Lots of houses decorate and I enjoy having a walk around to look at the other gardens, some people go to alot of trouble. Same at Christmas, can't wait to see all the gardens then. Fiona. xx

Must be a real picture Fiona, I'd love to see how you do it in the States, after all, that's where it all originated.

Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 27 Oct 2006 23:54

Might get the next door neighbours young children knocking on the door. Not many children in our road so don't get bothered really. Tend to sit in the back of the house so front is usually in darkness, so get bypassed. Last year daughter did the rounds to both sets of grandparents. Little granddaughter had on a pumpkin outfit, was a scream and grandson a vampire. This year they are off to a halloween party so won't be knocking. Grandson is going as a skeleton and I bought granddaughter a witch's outfit. Bought a broomstick but that was for me! Will get in a few bits in case we get a knock on the door but never give them money. No its not that old adage of being a tight Scot but they usually go out and spend it on fireworks or worse don't they. Aileen xx

So many people think that it is an American thing! Halloween has been celebrated in Ireland for centuries and it was the Irish fleeing the potato famine that carried on the tradition in the U.S. It has pagan origins really, all to do with the pagan new year, Samhain. Google it, it's actually quite interesting. Having said that, ask those knocking at your door on Tuesday night what it's all about and they'll be stumped. Like a lot of celebrations, the meanings get forgotten over time. I'll still be decorating my house though and taking mine out and about, it's great fun. As long as we don't get soaked again like last year. Gotta go, have a pumpkin or two to carve.
