Libby, you and me both, the more they take charges, the more overdrawn you get, a vicious circle.

No such thing as a proper Bank Manager any more. Have you ever tried getting through to your branch on the phone?. They are not even listed in the phone book. Call centre only!!. I used to work in a bank (late 1960's to 1981). Things have changed - the personal touch has gone. The manager(?) no longer has the authorisation to say yes or no to charges. It can be a vicious circle if you are on a budget and make a mistake with your calculations. Can take months to get over this - with bank charges for o'draft and charges for unpaid standing oder/direct bebits etc. Take it from someone who has been there. Libby xx

Halifax are just as petty, wish we still had Bank Managers who knew you and how you were with money, machines and computers have no leeway.

I believe they were talking about this the other day. I think they're going to try and put a stop to it.. ...won't hold my breath though

I have been trying to watch my finances carefully and was appalled when I got a statement today and 3 cheques that had been cashed each took me less than 15 over my overdraft limit, I was charged 30 for each, one only being for 10! This isnt the first time its happened to me and if the charges werent there I'd be in my overdraft limit!!! I remember a programme about legally getting rid of your bank charges, does anyone else? That 90 would buy a weeks shopping or tax the car, I'm appalled and demoralized, Some people are getting very rich! Cazxxx
