Hi Carol, It's annoying isn't it!! However, you'll have the last laugh - the Scottish certs are a joy to behold and you can download them (Copies as written in the register) free having paid for the viewing of course! I use Scotsp just about every day so if you have any probs let me know. I also have 1881 census and can look for you if you like. Depending on the area you're looking for there's loads of free info out there. North East area - use ANESFHS, if you follow MI link there's over 70 cemeteries that have all the 'occupants' listed and I've got booklets which show the actual wording. Also Fraserburgh Yahoo Group is very good. Scotfamtree.11.forumer.com has experts in Military/Mining and Poor law - they do look-ups all the time, very dedicated. West Coast - there's a group in Lewis, don't know a lot about it though. I'm in the Capital of the Highlands and can visit the library - in fact all Scottish libraries have newspapers on fiche. Any use?

I have been on Scotlands people eventually. Only after joining Ancestry which is useless for Scottish and Irish.
