Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, the Martha's don't fit. This is them on the 1841: Pensioners Alley, George St, Richmond, Surrey Joseph Brown, Head, M, 40, Tallow Chandler, Not born in county. Sarah Brown, Wife, M, 40, Not born in county Joseph Brown, Son, 14, Not born in county Sarah Brown, Dau, 10, Born in county Ebenezer Brown, Son, 7, Born in county Martha Brown, Dau, 2, Born in county I may have found Sarah senior on the 1861 as a widow. Neither of the Josephs have been found. Sarah married in 1855 in Clerkenwell; Ebenezer married in 1855 in West London and Martha married in 1859 in Holborn. All the marriage certificates give the father's name and none mention deceased, so I assume he was alive and hiding in 1851. |

I've had a thought, is it possible that Joseph could have died and Sarah has remarried? This is what happened to my grandfather on 1901 and he was down under the new surname. |

I guess you'll have to trawl through Dorking Capel district page by page to find the one listed on GR. Hope it's not a big district. |

I've been trying to find my Joseph Brown and family in 1851 for ages. So when GR announced the 1851 I'm pretty interested although I also have ancestry and have been unable to find them on there. Martha Brown born 1839 in Surrey - GR shows Martha aged 9 in Dorking Capel. Not having any GR units, I go off to ancestry which shows Martha born 1821 a nurse!!! So where is Martha Brown........and is she with her parents Joseph and Sarah???? |
