I have just been reading on another site, about a breakaway group from here, can someone enlighten me, what its all about? I do`nt spend a lot of time on the various boards, so I`ve obviously missed what has been going on. I tried to access the board, but was not allowed in! apparently one has to be invited, how is that acomplished? |

Its not connected to GR. You need to get someone to invite you, they kind of stand guarantor for you. Are you in contact with someone you know over there. |

If you have to be invited, who was the first person, bit like Adam and Eve, what do they call this site? does anyone belong to it? why is it so special? Janet |

The site is not connected to GR, although many members of GR are also members of that site. It is by invitation only to avoid troublemakers enlisting, which was decided very soon after the site began. In the first few days it was open to all, and more than 700 people joined in that time. Due to problems from here spilling over into the new site, it was made invitation only. That is not to say it is not a warm friendly place to discuss family history among other topics. It is extremely well moderated, and arguments simply do not happen. I am a member of Genealogistsxgr, known as the Family Tree Forum, so if anyone wants an invitation, please let me know in PM with your email address (as I have earned 80 plus invites, may as well use them lol) |

I'm a member of both sites. I was never sure what the problems were and never got involved. I just want to research my family tree and have some fun at the same time as do most folk. |

I am also using the new site and have learnt a lot about using a forum, everything from avatars to smilies. It was founded because a lot of GR members were unhappy at what we saw as some members being unfairly expelled from here. It is not our intention to ruin GR but to provide a more personal setting to discuss family history and provide a place for mutual support and fun. I can also help with invitations for people I know. The name was changed from XGr to family tree forum so that we could attract members who do not necessarily use GR. Anne |

Thank you all for the answers, I suppose I was being nosey, but I wondered why so many people were leaving GR, although they are not perfect by any means, it is nice to be able to communicate with people who have similar interests. I know there are some who like to cause trouble, but its best to ignore people like that, then hopefully they will disappear. The only complaint I really have with GR, is that they will keep changing things without warning, I get quite panicky sometimes when I come on and find everything is different, especially the family tree section. Many timers I keep making a mess of everything, I am just getting used to a system and then, wham, its all different and I have to learn all over again. But then I think, well my brains is just getting a bit lazy, so I suppose its good for me to be kept on my toes! My other gripe is the constant advertising when on the site, that really does get up my nose, I thought making payment to be a member should have made adverts not necessary, at least not so many anyway. I have been invited to join the other site, so hopefully will see you there. |
