Oh I have a friend who is a whiz on computers so won't have to send it to a repair shop if it goes on the blink. Ironic but it was a friend of his who sold me the computer! Oh what the heck, if Microsoft come knocking then I'll know they are going down the pan and spent all their trillions? |

Today received computer active magazine and this was printed in answer to a similiar query. ' The only way to solve this is to get a new copy of Windows XP. However, some help is at hand if you have a receipt and a CD, under Microsoft calls the 'Genuine Windows Offer'. Customers need to send in a receipt from the shop that sold the copy of Windows, plus the product CD and you will also need to file a report. More details are available at (www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/faq.aspx) remove ( ) If you don't have the CD, you'll be able to buy a copy of Windows XP at a discount. Details are available at the web address above' Hope this is of help cos I am only a 2fingered typist!!!! |

I get those pop-ups and i bought my computer new from a shop. When you 'update' from the web (as Windows does) and you click 'update now' Windows detects your operating system and if it thinks its dodgy it puts those notices up. You can't delete them either! i don't want to ring them as I am scared I'll get the shop into trouble. I think you're meant to ring them and give them lots of info and then pay for a 'legitimate' copy. |

I think that if you took the machine to a repairer and they found that your Windows programme was dodgy they HAVE to report it to Microsoft. |

I'm a criminal.... Yes, when I bought my computer from someone it had Windows on it and other programmes. Kept getting a small box in the right hand corner saying it might be counterfeit. Just ignored it. Blimey, just got a big one saying it was. I'll kill the b****r if I see him again. Aileen xxx |
