HEAVEN'S SPECIAL CHILD A meeting was held quite far from earth, It’s time again for another birth. Said the angels to the Lord above; This special child will need much love Her progress may be very slow, Accomplishments she may not show. And she'll require extra care, From the folks she meets down there, She may not run or laugh or play, Her thoughts may seem quite far away. In many ways she won’t adapt, and she’ll Be known as handicapped. So let’s be careful where she is sent, we want Her life to be content. Please, Lord, find the good friends who, will Do a special job for you. They will not realise it right away, the leading Role they’re asked to play. But with this child sent from above, comes Stronger faith and richer love. And soon they will know the privileges given, In caring for their gift from Heaven. Their precious charge, so meek and mild, is Heaven’s very special child. (dedicated to my daughter Charlotte, rest in peace sweetie) xxxxx

WHAT DO YOU SEE? What do you see nurse, what do you see? Are you thinking when you look at me. A crabbed old woman, not very wise, Uncertain of habit with far away eyes, Who dribbles her food and makes no reply When you say in a loud voice -- 'I do wish you'd try.' Who seems not to notice the things that you do And forever is loosing a stocking or shoe. Who resisting or not, lets you do as you will With bathing and feeding the long day to fill. Is that what you're thinking, is that what you see? Then open your eyes nurse, you're not looking at me. I'll tell you who I am as I sit here so still. As I move at your bidding, eat at your will. I'm a small child of 10 with a father and mother, Brothers and sisters who love one another; A young girl of 16 with wings on her feet Dreaming that soon a love she'll meet; A bride of twenty, my heart gives a leap, Remembering the vows that I promised to keep; At 25 now I have young of my own Who need me to build a secure, happy home. Woman of 30, my young now grow fast, Bound together with ties that should last. At 40, my young sons have grown up and gone. But my man's beside me to see I don't mourn. At 50, once more babies play around my knee, Again we know children, my loved one and me. Dark days are upon me, my husband is dead. I look at the future, I shudder with dread. For my young are all rearing young of their own, And I think of the years and the love that I've known. I'm an old woman now and nature is cruel. 'Tis her jest to make old age look like a fool. The body it crumbles, grace and vigor depart. There is a stone where I once had a heart. But inside this old carcass a young girl still dwells, And now again my bittered heart swells. I remember the joys, I remember the pain And I'm loving and living life over again I think of the years, all too few, gone too fast, And accept the stark fact that nothing can last. So open your eyes, nurse, open and see Not a crabbed old women, look closer, see me. Author......Unknown you see, in the elderly?

Rose, that is lovely and isn't it true, that if we could only match up the people, there would be fewer lonely old people who had no one to visit, and fewer families without grandparents to call on and talk to, cos they would be making each other's lives fuller. x

Sitting alone in an old rocking chair I saw an old mother with silvery hair She seemed so neglected by those who should care Rocking alone in an old rocking chair Her hands were all callused and wrinkled and old A life of hard work was the story they told And I thought of angels as I saw her there Rocking alone in an old rocking chair Bless her old heart, do you think she'd complain Though life has been bitter she'd live it again And carry that cross that is more than her share Rocking alone in an old rocking chair It wouldn't take much just to gladden her heart Just some small remembrance on somebody's part A letter would brighten her empty life there Rocking alone in an old rocking chair I know some youngsters in an orphans' home Who'd think they owned heaven if she was their own They'd never be willing to let her sit there Rocking alone in an old rocking chair I look at her and I think 'What a shame' The ones who forgot her she loves just the same And I think of angels as I see her there Rocking alone in an old rocking chair rosex
