I got her name from a wee book my great aunt wrote about her family -she mentions Auntie Lizzie (Fox) -Dad`s sister. But can`t find her on IGI --of course it`s Ireland isn`t it . Have got her siblings and parents but she`s nowhere to be found .Ros

Great nan was named as Lizzie on a census but real name Elizabeth, when asked her name, they most likely used the name she was called rather than her full name elaine x

Where did you pick up the name Lizzie? If on a census and she was in service it may just be the name she has been given by her employers. Ann Glos

Elizabeth but as mentioned it could have been a name in its own right. I have a grandad who was called Joe, and his eldest daughter, my aunt, called Bessie - their real names.

Hi Rosalyn It need not be short for anything. I found, in my wife's family, several people were known by names which were nothing like their given ones............. the explanations, when there were any, were strange to behold!! LOL Gerry :-))
