On one of my marriage certificates I have of my ancestors from 1840 in the age column it states 'Full'. Does anyone know if this means 18 or 21?

I have one where the couple are both minors and it says pompously 'Married with the permisssion of those whom the law requires', which in their case was a licence. And I also have those who just lied about their ages. And don't forget 'of full age' means anything from 21 to 100. OC

Thanks for the replies. I like the reply 'they lied about their age', because I have a feeling my great great great grandmother was 20 when she married and stated full age anyway. Richard
