A householder has told of his despair at being landed with a criminal record for putting a scrap of paper in a bin bag meant for bottles and cans. Michael Reeves, 28, has become Britain's first recycling martyr after a court fined him £200 for disobeying rules about sorting his rubbish. He had volunteered to take part in a recycling scheme launched by Swansea Council. But somehow a single piece of junk mail found its way into a bag designated for other rubbish. And when council workers found his name and address on it, they prosecuted. From the mail. It had to happen. Micheal.

I think it's just going to put people off recycling in case that happens to them too.

I find it frustrating that there are so many problems in this country and so many horrendous crimes and the police are messing about on this, + prosecuting people who remonstrate with rampaging youths, and grannies not paying council tax because they can't afford it. The lunatics are definitely running the asylum

the thing is the bags are clear enough to see through so theyd see if there was broken glas in there and they should be wearing protective gloves anyway health and safety with job like that as for small speck of paper, its stuppid all the crimes and this is what we pay police for, its so easy for them, its a flippin joke, this country make money out of good people, letting others get away with it, what about the 2 asylum seekers on the run who are terrorists thats too scary to deal with i suppose

There was a lady a couple of months ago that got fined for putting the wrong bottles into a bottle bank. Think she had been doing this on a number of occasions. We have a trouble with our recycling. Hubby likes the house clean and tidy and does not like things left laying around and we keep the 3 recycling bins out the front so if I am not on hand to wash the glass or tins then its put straight into the indoor bin as he wont open the front door just to put out a jar or tin especially with winter coming and all the heat gets sucked out of the house. (His words not mine). LOL We are N.E.Lincs council and our bins are for glass paper and tins. My mum lives up the road in East Lindsay which is still Lincolnshire and hers are for plastic paper and tins.
