What do people feel about giving charity gifts eg Oxfam Unwrapped at Xmas? I gave my friend`s hubby a goat from Oxfam last year and she said --'He didn`t get many gifts this year as yours was Oxfam'. He`s 52! Ros

I think it's a great idea for certain people. A few years ago my (adult)nephew gave me some Oxfam chickens and my mum had a goat. We thought it was a wonderful idea. Last year that nephew's present from me was a gift to Save the Children, which he was equally pleased about. I have hinted that if my local friends want to give me a birthday present, a charity gift would be lovely but I know one friend in particular wouldn't think of that as a present to me. Gwyn

Well I have just had a great couple of hours setting up a Civil Partnership list for us. And I am looking forward to seeing just which of our friends buys us bags of fertilizer! Jane

I think you have to know the recipient well - are they in support of the environment are they animal lovers? In the past my husband has received sponsorhsip of a whale, horses and dogs. My g.dau (aged 19) just in the summer recalled being given sponorshop of a pony and she remembered the name - she was about 7 at the time - she did get other gifts from us as well!

I would never give anything to Oxfam for purely personal reasons, and will never give to world charities -- I believe charity begins at home -- so would rather fund a soup kitchen for down and outs -- or anything local to improve kids lives. soz thread killer xx
