As far as I know, a digital signal is made up of numbers, or maybe not lol

Please tell me this is for your eldest! seems way advanced to be Laddo or Tiddlers! From Wikipeadia:- Digital signal processing (DSP) is the study of signals in a digital representation and the processing methods of these signals. DSP and analog signal processing are subfields of signal processing. DSP has at least three major subfields: audio signal processing, digital image processing and speech processing. Since the goal of DSP is usually to measure or filter continuous real-world analog signals, the first step is usually to convert the signal from an analog to a digital form, by using an analog to digital converter. Often, the required output signal is another analog output signal, which requires a digital to analog converter. The algorithms required for DSP are sometimes performed using specialized computers, which make use of specialized microprocessors called digital signal processors (also abbreviated DSP). These process signals in real time and are generally purpose-designed ASICs. In short I think it refers to sound and video transmitions in digital format e.g. 111000101011001 (binary) instead of analoge which is waves of light and sound (think of sea waves or those through a slinky)

Dawn, It must be a new addition to the sylabus as I did A'level Biolagy, Chemistry and Physics and we did nothing on this. Speeking to the school sounds like a good idea as it's not fair to set homework you know the children can't do and practically laugh in their faces - it's just cruel and inhumane. The very least the teacher could do is tell them to read a particallar section of their text books that will help them. Hope all works out. (((((((((((hugs to eldest)))))))))))
