To cut a long story short I have been looking for a 'bulldog puppy' ( far too expensive for my pocket.) I have contacted various kennels and breeders and explained that I am not looking for a show dog or want to breed bully's. My only interest is having a healthy female puppy as a pet. Our bully died last summer and we miss her terribly. Many people were helpful, I do not want an adult dog, and it is more difficult to find a puppy for adoption, or at a reduced price if they are not up to show standards. I came across this site in the U.K. which has a long list of puppies for sale with pedigrees as long as your arm. There is an advert for 'English Bulldog puppies for free adoption' I sent my contact details and was sent an email...in very bad English asking me in I had ever been a bully parent before and where was I from. I replied that I am in the Algarve, Portugal and could send copies of our Feia's 'Health booklet' which has kept track of her shots and her well being from the day we got her. As well as photo's of her since puppy to shortly before she died. I received an email back saying that they are in the 'Cameroons' and the puppies are still available.... I emailed again and explained that I was very disappointed as thought they were in the U.K. and as Portugal is also part of the European community there would be no problems shipping the puppy over here, the cost of which I was happy to pay. I have no idea what the treaty is with Portugal and the Cameroons, but if it is anything like South Africa, where our bully came from it was a nightmare. We had nothing but problems and the poor puppy was stuck in Germany for ten days as they insisted that we did not have an import permit. I was yelling until I was blue in the face that she was in transit and did not need an import permit. It cost time and money to get her out and I am not prepared to go through that again. Today I received a long email from someone, supposedly the owner, telling me that they have been to the shipping agent who assures them that the puppy will be delivered to your door in the U.K. and the cost would be 350 British Pounds. They want my home address and phone number and they will advise me of payment. I emailed again and asked for the second time for a photograph and once again told them that I am in Portugal not the U.K. The reason that the couple are giving up the puppies are because they are working for a Peace Corpse Organization in Nigeria and are constantly on the move... The person who emailed me also sent me the name and Addy of the Organization that they work for with his wife's name who is listed as a member of staff. My gut feeling tells me that this is wrong, but I would be mortified if these are genuine people and I am doing them an injustice... UPDATE.. . I have just received the most beautiful photographs...my heart is melting... she is so adorable...They are asking for money before shipping her...also, the younger brother who sent the first emails was on line chatting to me..., too many people involved...but could be genuine...or not... I have a tension headache...... Please help... Lindy |

Sadly Lindy anything to do with parting with money first makes us warry these days. I can't advise you except to say be careful. I don't know how you can prove it is an honest transaction or not really. Ann Glos |

(quote)The reason that the couple are giving up the puppies are because they are working for a Peace Corpse Organization in Nigeria and are constantly on the move (unquote) That alone should set alarms bells ringing Lindy! Anything to do with Nigeria is usually a scam. There are many scams coming from Nigeria so please beware this could just be another one! Linda P.s. Peace 'corpse' (??) is that a spelling error, surely it should be corps |

Lindy...so sorry your beautiful Feia has passed over, you will have many happy memories of Feia and I am sure you will give another dog a good home. These people could be genuine but somehow I don't think so and am not alone in this. If you have a gut feeling that something is wrong, follow your instincts and don't even go there. Another dog will come along, this just doesn't feel right. Linda |

Linda, Thank you for helping me see reason.. I guess I just needed someone to tell me what I already knew... Thank you everyone who has contributed...I so wanted to see the good and not the bad...even if these people come across as normal every day people... Had I not posted my concerns over here...most likely I would have handed over the money and lived to regret it...not..even thinking about explaining to OH how I lost so much money... P.S. He does not know as it was supposed to be a surprise present for him....ha! ha! or should I say sob! sob! Good night all... Lindy xx |

personally I wouldnt spend that amount of money on a dog but just settle for a local puppy no matter what kind it was. I certainly wouldnt buy one from another country |

Sadly, I would concur with the sentiments expressed. Nigeria is bad news for any sort of transaction, I would be very surprised if you received a puppy and less surprised if your bank account was cleaned out along the way. |
