Hi Alan The only suggestion I have is to look at the adoption threads on the the tips board if you havent already done so. If you type Adopt in the search box at the top of the tips board you should get alot of adoption threads come up

Hi Alan, maybe try putting this on the tips board, or try putting the word 'adoption' in the thread search. You might find some useful information there. Good luck

Hello there, I am really new to this whole thing and have recently begun searching. I am searching for the birth family of my father who was adopted back in 1952. He was born in 1951 and adopted through an agency which no longer exists. We have managed to obtain some records from Croydon Council as they now hold some of the records for this adoption society. His birth mother is named and I have managed to trace her birth and marriage details through the BMD registers. However, there is no specific address as she was a barmaid at the time and although there is correspondence from her until 1953 the addresses are always those of public houses. He also had a sister born a couple of years before him and she too was adopted ~ only have her birth name and DOB. I've kind of reached a dead end now and am not sure where to go next or where it's best to look. Obviously we don't wish to upset anyone and will proceed with tact! I have had a look through the various threads and topics and everyone is so much more knowledgeable than me in tracing family members so thought I would ask for advice in progressing my search further. Thanks for any help or advice you can give me.
