Liz, - Purple Poinsettia has links with Malta, I believe. She is usually here late at night into the early hours. Gwyn

My brother and his girlfriend just came back from Malta - a week's hols. They said it was a nice little island - but be very careful what you eat (avoid anything with egg or undercooked meat/seafood). Both of them ended up with food poisoning and spent a couple of days really ill in bed (or should I say, fighting each other for the loo!). Last thing you want on holiday, eh? Was telling a friend at work and she said the same thing happened to her and her friend when they went there last year.

I have had holidays there in December and early January. I enjoyed them all. I loved the Christmas nativity scenes, especially in Valetta. From an historical point of view, it is fascinating. I loved travelling on the old buses. The people were friendly. The wine was good, too ... :-) We stayed in Qawra and in Bugibba.

My sister and I were there in July for 4 days to bring my Mum and Dad back home after his unplanned hospital stay! We stayed in the Victoria Hotel in Sliema--very nice. It seemed a lovely island but we didn`t see much of it . The buses are cheap, Ros

Hi there, Malta is nice anytime of year, it is the kind of place you love or hate, no inbetween!! I have been numerous times and never had a problem with the food, altho I always go self catering, I am eating out a lot and also with friends and family. I have been there in Novembers and Februarys and the weather is nice during the day but gets cold at night, but not like our cold nights. Went one year when my son was small and I was warming his pjs before he went to bed, on the flap down door of the electric cooker, didn't position them quite right and managed to scorch the collar a bit, no major damage done tho and we still laugh about it. I would be walking round in a strappy top in the daytime, and my friends would be wearing coats and boots, to them it was cold but me (usually a chilly mortal) didn't find it cold at all. Give it a go, just take a warm jacket and/or cardigan for the evening. Enjoy. Liz
