Yes, I was angry and disgusted about it.It was unecessarily sensationalist. I have seen things like this done before but there is a clear heading of 'advertisement' or similar on the page. That was not the case here. Angela |

I'm not a fan of President Bush by any means, but that is just going too far. |

That is dreadful but can't say I'm shocked by it - TV and Press do go too far these days. I'm sure many people will complain. |

Hi All Yes, it was shocking because it was not apparent that it was just advertising a film. It honestly looked like the real thing! Front page news headlines. Aside from the text I sent the newspaper last night, I emailed them today, too. You can't say that much in a text LOL and I had plenty to say, as you probably noticed. Yes, I was wondering who to contact 'further up the ladder' so to speak. I really don't think this type of thing should be allowed. It makes you wonder, if they can print such believable stories and photographs like that, no wonder there are some people who still believe Elvis lives! |

That is disgusting, and guaranteed to make me not watch the film. But isn't there an advertising standards agency that you can complain to? I am sure there is. Ann Glos |

I haven't seen it living in the north west, but I think advertisers go out of there way to shock. It's not a very nice thing to have seen at all. I agree. But if it gets the advert noticed then they will have achieved their goal, no matter how hurtful. catherine xx |

I didn't see the newspaper Athena (we live in the north-east), but I saw the trailer for the film on tv and said to my son that I couldn't believe they were making such a film about people who are still alive and in power at the moment. However nothing really surprises me any more where tv is concerned. They'll do anything to make money. I'm sorry that you were upset at the newspaper article - they obviously don't care about people's feelings. Kath. x |

Hi - I don't often get the time to post on the General board because I'm usually so snowed under with the research side of things. But today I just had to pop over here to see if anyone else is as annoyed as I am about the advertising in The London Paper (that is given out free every day on the streets of London). Their front and inside cover story showed photos of President Bush after being shot, with a detailed account of how it happened with the title of 'The Assassination' and on the back cover a full page colour photo of him, just as they do when someone important has died...well, reading that and seeing the photos etc I was totally in shock, as were my family when they read it. As soon as we reached home, we sat glued to the TV, waiting for the news coverage of the assassination. NOTHING. I became a bit suspicious at this point, thinking, surely there would be mention of his death on the news??? The newspaper had said there would a programme about it at 9pm that night - so I assumed it meant a special emergency programme. Then I received a phone call from a friend saying had I seen the article and had I realised that it was all an advertising scam by one of the TV channels for the showing of a film 'Death of a President'. To say I was incensed at their low, underhanded, advertising tactics, would be an understatement. It truly was the most abhorrent thing to do. I'm sure we weren't the only ones that were duped into thinking it was for real. Imagine how upset some people may have been - especially any Americans who may have read that paper. I think it was advertising done in the worst possible taste and I'm furious that they can get away with this sort of thing. I sent them a text message, saying so, too. There - just had to get that off my chest. Did anyone else see the paper I'm talking about? |
