Scary times when our kids go out into the wide world and do mad things but you have to let them go and try out their wings, in this case almost literally, so send him off with cheer and good wishes and try not to show you are petrified. I know you are not doing so to your family, but my Mum held me back so many times in my life by making me feel guilty for worrying her if I went off and did my 'thing'. When I did finally rebel and do what I wanted anyway I was blamed for upsetting her and even when she died, my brothers said I had caused her so much worry, she had been ill with it. Sorry Mum, but it was my life!! Have a great flight Tom.

His instructor will only let him go if he is ready and the conditions are right. When I had a lesson last month the next pupil was due to go solo but the instructor said he was going to postpone it because the visibility was so poor.

Thank you all for your replies. No news yet so I shall just hop from foot to foot until I hear something. Yes I am very proud of him and his sisters and because I wasn't encouraged to 'go for it' when I was younger, I want them to take every opportunity life throws at them so that they never look back and say 'if only'. Unsuitable weather prevented his flight on Wednesday so it's been rescheduled for today. FRIDAY 13TH. Really need a check list of good luck charms now! Daisy

The weather here, next to the Post Office Tower in London, looks perfect after early morning fog and the forecast for the rest of the Country was similar, so I expect it will go ahead.
