Aw Cute. Pity I can't touch them but I'm allergic to guinea pigs. I think I'm right in saying that you mustn't disturb them or the mother will eat the babies. I know that's true of baby rabbits anyway. Congratulations! Sue |

what a lovely surprise...I hope you find good homes for them if you decide that you can't keep them all. We had 2 male guinie pigs, one lived for 6years the other for 8! this is considered very old apparently. As new borns G-pigs look exactly the same as fully grown one's except smaller. |

Aw how sweet !!!!!!! What colours are they ?? Don't forget to separate mum & dad immediately after birth & er boy & girl babies after 3 weeks or you may end up with a couple of dozen instead, lol !! |

Oh, lovely. We discovered one baby guinea pig in with ours one day, - not an ideal situation as our 2 were from the same litter. As they had happily lived together, 'Dad' went off for a visit to the vets and still lives with the mum. Baby went to a neighbour, when he was old enough. All such characters. We'd never had guinea pigs before these but I'd recommend them as a pet. Gwyn |

I've seperated Dad and Mum. Am not sure as what to do in the future, Do I get him done? They are ginger and white image of mum. I'm hoping they all survive and have started spreading the word to find homes for them I will probably keep one as I can't bear to part with them all Tracyx |

Tracy Yes,-I'd take him for a 'visit'. Our 2 had a baby January 2002. Daddy G.P. had the op. soon after and they've lived happily together ever since. We didn't have room for another cage and anyway they like each others company, it seems. Gwyn |

Gwyn Question for you. I'm not sure what to do with him, at the moment he is in an 'emergency cage' If I get him sorted can I put him straight back in with the family? Tracy |

Tracy Your vet. will advise but I've just asked adult daughter and she thinks that he had to be kept apart in a separate cage, - no sawdust, - for a few days, ( 4 or 5?) then back to vets for a check up , after which he was OK to go back with the others. Gwyn |

just to give an update..... 2 of my little babies died yesterday. One was the runt of the litter the other one got stuck behind his house and got cold. Went to the vets with him and gave TLC but died 3 hrs later. Been out today to buy an inside home for them. Now the living room is out of bounds as the dog has to be kept away. Oh the joys of animals!!! On a brighter note the other 3 seem fine keeping a close eye on them....... Got loads of good homes for them but I don't think I can let them go!!!!! |

Sorry to hear that you've lost 2 young guinea pigs. We keep ours in an indoor cage- easy clean and looks a bit like a baby's hospital cot. The trouble is that they soon learn the kitchen sounds in the background might mean food, eg. fridge opening, chopping vegetables etc. They are quite knowing little creatures. Gwyn |

Another update. I'm afraid another of the babies has died. Have been advised to take them away from the mother as she was being rough with them (maybe suffocated) Very concerned about the 2 that are left but doing all I can to make them comfortable. Got one heartbroken daughter to console too. Tracy x |

Tracy One of our pigs died today :( and Im not sure who's the most upset me or my 8 year old. They are the sweetest things in the world and I have 7 of them left! A good tip the vet gave me years ago for babies is fill a small plastic drinking bottle (you know the fizzy drink size) full of warm water and wrap it in a soft cloth then it place in with the littleones and it acts like the warmth of Mum. Good luck! |
