As anyone on here ever had anything to do with running a youth club? Or been involved in any way? I have got a 'bee in my bonnet' about setting up something at our local church hall for the young kids around here. I have had a look on google and emailed a couple of useful contacts, but I wanted to hear of any personal experience. I plan to recruit a number of volunteers, form a committee and put together a comprehensive proposal before approaching the local priest. What do you think? Suzy. |

Suzy - not sure but i would think that everyone would have to be CRB checked - try phoning your local council they may have a dept for youth/child work which may have some tips? Jenx |

Suzy - great idea and hope your idea goes down well. It will be hard but if you can, try and get some young people on the committee too, others are more likely to come along and return if they know they have a real voice in the organisation of the club. Lots of luck, Liz |

Good Luck to you Suzy. When I was a young teenager, back in the dark ages, lol, every church had it's youth club, schools also. The age range was from 14yrs to 18yrs & they were great fun. The boys played football, the girls netball. We had snooker & table tennis tables & ofcourse the record player to jive to. I don't know why they died out, I think they became 'uncool'. There are some of the old rock & roll tunes that can transport me back to my old primary school hall even now. I hope you can get something organised & that the youngsters will come along. Hi Suzy My work runs a youth club so if you want any information please let me know and i will see what i can do. Things to consider: CRB checks are required for all adults working with children. You will probably need someone with First Aid. You will need funding. Equipment. art and craft things, sports equipement etc Insurance Good luck Jane |

Suzy, Child Protection is an important issue. The best place to get advice is CCPAS - just Goole for it. (Church Child Protection Advice Service, I think) They also advise secular societies, and organise police checks. There is an annual fee for their help, but if you join they keep you upto date with the latest advice. If you don't police check, and there is some complaint, your insurance company may not cover you for any claims against the Church or the Club. If you're thinking of younger children, I think that the ratio of children to adults should be quite high. Hope this is of help Best wishes Anne |
