For those of you that claimed this last winter there is a new scheme offering a bigger rebate you should receive details in the post but just in case and for new claimants… British Gas users will receive a £60 rebate in the form of two separate credits one on your last bill for this year and the other on the first bill for 2007. If you also buy your electricity from them you will receive a further £30 in two credits in the same way as for gas. If you haven’t claimed before do so now by ringing the Winter Rebate Scheme on 0845 601 2006 have your account number to hand. You need to be in receipt of one of the following benefits It's for British (or Scottish) Gas customers only and you have to be on one of the following benefits: Vulnerable Customer - Eligible Benefits • Disability living allowance • Pension Credit • Attendance allowance • War disablement pension which includes either a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance • Disablement pension which includes constant attendance allowance • Child tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less • Working tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less • Council tax benefit • Housing benefit • Income-based job seekers allowance • Income support • Carers Allowance • Severe Disability allowance If you didn't apply last year do so NOW. Good luck everyone Linda x

Bumping to save. Catherine - a closely guarded secret - self employed people CAN claim Working Tax Credit. No one will tell you this, but if you are interested, I can give you the phone number for a claim form. I did this recently, thinking there must be a catch - there isnt, and I got a small, but welcome allowance, with the greatest of ease! OC

Nudging to keep it in my contacts so I can apply for my Dad - awaiting his new account numbers for both as he has just moved house. Thanks for the prompt as I didn't know about it and he would have qualified last year as well Joanne

Can't see any credits for the hard working majority, but we still have to find the money when the bill comes in. Talk about taking money from your purse and shoving it in someone elses. Lin

JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW I have been on the phone to query my bills and asked about the winter fuel payment as it wasnt taken of this one which is the last one of the year. They said they only give the rebate to 250,000 and they have already reached their quota. However it is not taken of the last bill off this year and the first of next but taken of the 2 winter bills and as the one I recieved is for the autumn it should be taken of the next 2 which will be the highest ones. Thats the theory any way.
