I have just read my local magazine issued by Essex Council here is what they say. If you wish to research your family history Essex Libraries have signed up to a subscription for the hugely popular Ancestry .com website so you can use it free of charge. The Census from 1841 - 1901, the whole of England birth, death and marriage indexes from 1837 for England and Wales. It says check opening times for you local libraries on 0845 603 7628 or www.essexcc.gov.uk/libraries. I thought all the peeps in Essex might like to know about this service. Gwen

Makes me wish I still lived there. Most of my ancestors on fathers side come from Essex, well West Ham but it was seen as Essex at the time.

One other thing, I expect everyone knows already, but I have only just heard, Chelmsford now has a records office. Probably old news, but new news to me!! Dawn.
