So, actually these people ruined their own lives. [Hmmm, must be feeling cynical today]

Hi Brian, I didn't see the programme, but my friend who I used to work with joined Friends Reunited. She was, so I thought, happily married for over 17 years with 2 teenage children. She made contact with an old school friend and, yes you have guessed it, within a year she had lost a stone in weight, coloured her hair, revamped herself, got a divorce, sold her house and moved in with the new man. I haven't seen her since, as she left work to move South to be with him so I don't know what the eventual outcome was or whether they are still together. Jenny

Hi Julie, I'm back. 'Ruined my life' was rather an overstatement, but it certainly affected the 4 people whose stories were featured. Each of them had registered for Friends Reunited, of course and each had posted details of their lives since having left school. The first was a young woman who was in a steady relationship with a man, and living with him. She was at a bit of a loose end one day and went into the FR site. Found a chap she had been going out with, who she'd last seen 9 years ago. They e-mailed each other, re-kindled their friendship, then when her present feller went off for a few days on business, she jumped on a train and went to meet this old flame 'just for a day'. That stretched to 3 days, then two weeks. He wasn't the nice chap she previously knew, and their new-found relationship went pear-shaped. She went back to the bloke she'd left, and they appear to be getting on OK. The second was another young woman with a boy-friend. She was browsing through info. he'd posted about himself, so far so good, she thought. Then she was surprised to see he'd finished off by saying 'and I'm still single'. Implying that he wouldn't mind a change of partner, or a bit on the side. She replied to his message saying, in effect 'right mate if that's how you feel, you are single!', and gave him the big E. The third was about some plonker who put on his info. that, among details of himself, he was in a boring dead-end job. One morning his boss sent for him, and fired him. The boss had been browsing and had seen what his employee was saying about his job, and wasn't too pleased! The fourth was another plonker who'd told the world that he was doing very nicely, thank you, selling 'charlie' (a class A drug, but I can't remember which one) on E-bay. His misfortune was that the police also monitor these sites. They traced him; and nicked him!! That's about it really. The programme was highlighting the darker side of Friends Reunited, in a light-hearted manner. Hope I haven't bored you. Brian, ;< )

Did anyone watch it? I know it's not exactly the same as Genes Reunited, but it highlighted the need to be a bit prudent on what one discloses on these sites. We think we're all a nice, friendly bunch of peeps, but there are others logging in who are quite the opposite, and may use what we divulge for their dishonesty. We must never overlook the fact that everything on here goes to every corner of the world, not just from one friendly town to another. Brian, ;~O )
