A good friend who is very sick and fragile right now, tried to change a pair of shoes in a well-known shop beginning with C. The Manager refused and said she had worn them. She had'nt. He refused point blank to consider they had probably been sold to her and someone else had already worn them. Long discussion. Friend collaposes in tears and is left on chair, obviously distressed but ignored. I have been to the shop this morning, found the Manager, explained, discussed, argued, and finally left having achieved nothing. Now, I am really mad. Do I ring Head Office and probably get the Manager into trouble? or simply leave it????? BC in a temper......

If they fob you off write to the local paper, they love these sort of stories. What made him say she had worn them? And why was she returning them? No excuse for the manager's rudeness and lack of compassion, but they don't have to take them back of course unless there is anything wrong with them. Ann Glos

Mention the local papers, national papers, or perhaps your local M.P. The M.P. bit usually gets their, er, donkeys in gear.

I would be sorely tempted to arrange friends and family to all buy shoes there and then return them en masse in a flash mob on a regular basis - just to give him a nice little headache.

I would certainly complain most strongly (but politely, coz thats the way I am) to head office, but I must say I like the flash mobbing idea :)

I would write to H Q and if you still don't have any luck do the sort of thing I did this morning (see my thread - Tip for today) get your friend to leave the shoes outside the shop (just after closing mind so as many people get to see before they are removed when the shop opens again in the morning) with a note explaining why they are there; not forgetting to include how horrible the Manager is to his customers!! I can't believe it, but Head Office (in Somerset) have rung back, talked to the guy concerned and say that the shoes have been worn, and my friend should send them back to HO for a second opinion. They will not budge.... have told them I will take it further.....BC

I dont want to upset any one here but legally the shop are under no obligation to take them back worn or not. If they are faulty in some way thats a different matter.

I realize that Joanne, but I was thinking of things like discretion, humanity, compassion (if you saw her appearance you would know what I mean).... BC

Unfortunatly BC some bigger named stores think more about jobs worth than about their customers, not right I agree but if they know the law and are a tad pompus then you dont stand a chance. Why does she want to change the shoes?
