Hi, My g/g/grandmother used her maiden name Simson on marriage cert , her status was 'widow' and her father's name was Simson . Strange !!!! This was 1841. Joyce |

Hi, The married name was the norm followed by 'widow' - I don't know of any exceptions. Gwynne |

Can any one please advise if women who were widowed in the early 1800's would use their married or maiden name when they remarried. I am interested in a marriage in 1824 in Cumberland, England. Curious Aussie |
