Yes, real life friends sometimes give you the advice they 'think' you want to hear. Friends on here tell it like it is. Love etc

Dave, you're a star in my book. I, like many others have made a new group of friends, when all I was really looking for was a bit of family history. I keep in touch with some more than others via e-mail, msn, and sometimes snail mail too. A lot of feel the same way by the looks of things, 'a problem shared is a problem halved' in this mad world we live in we all need someone to talk to. As you know I have a soft spot for the 'cafe', and through it have made some good friends... Magi

I've made a few lovely friends on here. They know who they are and I feel as though I've known them my whole life. One of them even tolerates my extremely long 'novels' masquerading as emails! Daisy

Hi Dave, I have to agree. It sort of surprised me, really. I've been into genealogy for years and that's why I joined. I didn't look at the general board for ages when I first joined just helped out on Tips and Records. I couldn't understand why people were posting stuff that had nothing to do with genealogy. Then I sort of got sucked in slowly. I think you look out for names of people whose posts you know will interest you and you get to 'know' people slowly. You get to know who you are likely to agree or disagree with and you start to look out for what they are posting. I also have built up friendships by email and msn which is good. As in 'real llife' you won't get on with everybody but that's OK too. Gwynne update - Might have known CB would get here before me. Get on with the gardening, woman.

Dave, You really are a lovely bloke, you know! I regard you as a friend, even though I doubt we'll ever meet. Apart from finding out more about my family history, I've made some wonderful friends on here - some of whom I regard as very special. Others I have less contact with, but we still share interests or have a laugh together, which is important to me. It would be great to just nip round the corner for a chat with some of them, but that can't happen, so I'm happy just to have the opportunity to communicate with them via GR and, in some cases, private emails. I am grateful to GR for giving me that opportunity. CB >|< XX

I have gained so many special friends on here. There's those who join in on my (often) stupid threads and sympathise with me on my disastrous love life! But there's also those who I can ring/text at any time in the morning and be comforted. There's those who private email me with secret messages of support, love and laughter. There's those who I can talk to about ANYTHING and believe me we do!! I have gained surrogate Aunts, Uncles, a Grampa, a Grandma, several big sisters and brothers, a little sister (Steedie!) and several others who I cannot categorise!! The internet is an extremely powerful medium! becx
