Revaluation

I hear that every house in England is to be revalued for the purpose of calculating Council Tax. Perhaps while they are doing it they can find out who gold plated the house I bought in 1970 for £2995 to make it worth £100,000 today?

Probably the same person that made my house that I bought in 1978 for £18,995 worth (?!?) £395,000 today! Maybe I'm being 'blonde' here, but I can't understand why the charge bands have to change. Surely prices throughout the whole country have increased proportionately so why do we all have to be revalued? Sue xx

Its possibly due to the expected demands made of the chancellors promises of extra payments to pensioners,ie £200 bonus thingy and free local transport costs....... you dont get summfin' for nuffin' Bob

Some properties have gone up more than others. I believe they will probably targeting them. As always, the only winners are the Money Lenders.

People living in Wales have already had their bands reviewed. So this year, as well as a 4% increase, we have to pay extra for the Band increase. My bill is about £250 more than it was last year. In the old days we used to pay rates based on rateable values and, generally people just accepted that if you owned a house you had to pay rates - I wonder if the renaming to 'Council Tax' has contributed to our awareness of what we're actually paying for (and maybe not receiving !)

Seeing as the amount of services from the Council that you consume has a greater relationship to the number of people in the property than to the property's value, the so-called Poll Tax was actually the fairest way to apportion costs.

I never understood why people got so hot under the collar about the Poll Tax. Each individual paying their share rather than dropping it all on the Householder.

Hi Jim, Same thing happening here in Aust. got phone call from son in Queensland tonight to say Valuation gone up in my house he lives in (unimproved capital value of land only) from $45,000 to $165,000. They just want an increase in council funds from rates I think. I might add it is a rural area, not as if the council provides any services. Did the resale value of my house go up by $120,000 over night? Don't think so!!!! Oh well, as you can see the crooks are everywhere, not just in your neck of the woods. Cheers Laurie

Perhaps they will take the extra money from the mythical extra value of the houses. also, don,t forget,Water and Sewage rates go up in proportion to the Rateable value of your property,so it will be a 'Triple Whamy'.No doubt some 'Idiot'from Tonys 'Think Tank'came up with this lunacy. Hal.
