I was born in 1937 finished my apprenticeship, and was called up on 16april 1959, however I was not among the last to go in, there were more after me! and demobbed in march 1961 Bob

Well, Dan, my brother was in the last lot to go in for 2 years, at 18, and he was born in 1939, so I guess it stopped around 1959. CB>|< P S Where have you been all this time? Not seen you about for ages!

National Service information at Aldershot Military Museum. ... National Service was introduced in 1948 for every 18 year old male, and lasted until 1960. ... googled this daniel Hope it helps Karen

Anyone know when National service was introduced and when it was stopped? Having a bit of trouble finding out. Thanks.
