Am sure you'll enjoy it. Happy driving. My Skoda Favorit was a red 5 door hatchback. :-) Joy

Hi guys - an update - am collecting a bright red 5 door hatchback Skoda Comfort 1400 16 valve job on Friday!! Cant wait to fiddle with the air con and all the electric bits and pieces!! Boy, does it move! And the PAS, oh it is just one touch and the thing turns - no sweating like I do with the VW. Many thanks for all your help and advice. PS Chris - Jack iRusell is 16 now, so not so prone to chewing upholstery (more like peeing on it Im afraid).

Go for the Skoda. There is something else you might find cheaper, the insurance. Skodas are still less likely to be knicked than a VW. Ros

My mother is on to her second skoda (an H reg one) her partner is on his second and my best friend from school has had so many of them I've given up counting. (She's got one of these deals where you pay for 1/2 the car over 3 years and at the end of the term you can either pay the other half for the car or PX it for another new one)

It seems a very long time ago since jokes such as 'What do you call a Skoda with one headlight? Answer - a torch' were flying around like mad. They've come a long way since then and it wouldn't put me off as a potential buyer.

The newer models, the Octavia and Fabia have a very good reputation. What Car chose the Octavia ahead of the Golf recently...

Buy it! A year ago husband decided to change his car (Honda) - researched the market and told me 'I can't believe it but I am going to look at Skoda'. He ended up buying a Fabia Comfort and is delighted at all the extra goodies he kept finding. In the past 25 years his cars have been 4 Hondas, 1 Volvo and a BMW - he is perfectly happy with the Skoda. It has won several awards over past 3-4 years - Car of the Year etc. Ann

Thanks everyone for your replies - if it were just up to me I would go back tomorrow and buy it because it is pure luxury after my 17 year old Golf, which I have to say still runs well but is looking a bit tat. Shall try to persuade old man to go and have a look at it but it would be pointless me getting it and he refuses to drive it aswell. Night night everyone!

We like the Skoda cars. I had a Favorit new from M reg, and it was brilliant. My better half has a Felicia and that's good, too. Since being made by WW it's been good. Joy

Whats the difference between a T*m&*x and a Skoda? You dont get a tow rope with a Skoda.

hi heather naff or not i have this exact model with electrics ect & i love it. i'm 26yrs old & when mentioned to a friend was getting one she replied but they are for old men but she had to eat her words when i turned up in it. my husband is a main dealer VW mechanic & has been for 16yrs & they are NO different to the new VW. It is the shell of the new VW polo but half the price. Try as he did he still couldnt get me a polo for the same cost.

They are quite smart nowadays I think. Worth a look at. Might be worth looking at other makes too that aren't so pricey. Sarah

I am trying to replace my 17 year old VW Golf and find that newer models are so expensive that I am looking at 10-12 year olds. Today I was looking at a 12 year old job and the salesman said 'What if I said you could have a 2001 Y reg Golf thats done 26000 miles, 1 owner, full service history with air con, all electrics windows, abs and all mod cons for £4500' - then he pointed to a Skoda Fabia Comfort. I have to say my immediate reaction was no way - but it was a cold day so I thought Id get in to have a look. The outside is really very much the same as a new Golf. Wow it looks absolutely brilliant inside. BUT wimp or what, I cannot get over the Skoda badge on it. Anyone any thoughts? I feel quite confused about it all.
