Claire DON'T phone it. I get these at least half dozen times a week! All a Scam! Christine

Definitely a scam. You can stop these 'phone calls by signing up with the Telephone Preference Service, it is free and stops all unsolicited calls. I was getting calls every day, signed up and have not had any bother since. If someone does call you can report them! Tricia

I agree with the others Claire, it is a scam. They are probably trying to get you to ring a premium rate number and will have you hanging on for ages to rack up their profits. Christina

What's the betting that the number to call starts '09' ?

Unfortunately tps won't stop all these calls as they originate from outside the UK. Someone had the cheek to tell us that you had to register every year. Max call cost in UK is about £1.50 a minute you would have to be on the phone for about 11.5 hours to get a call to cost £1000. Just ignore them, but do register with tps as it does help. Ros

The proof that this is a Scam is the fact they rang your Ex-directory Number. If you have not given it to them there is only 2 ways they can get it. 1 from BT who would be brakeing a contract. or 2. they have an aotomatic dileing machine that diles one number then the next in sequense (123456, 123457, 123458) That meens its not a genuin prize but an entisement. for you to ring and spend £££ on the call.

hi . we are listed on the TPS & it does work. You can report these 090 numbers to them too and they will investigate & pull the plug on them. Also I pay £ per month on my telephone bill which blocks callers with nos witheld . They get a message which says ' this tel nos doesnt accept nos withheld calls. WE are also nos withheld outwards but can put in a code if we want to take it off for one call, as soon as you put the phone down at the end of a call it goes back on automatically. WE are EX DIR too We also registerd our mobiles & reported premium line dating service texts that we wre both receiving . thay made out our names had been passed to them as someone looking for a partner.REALLY we are both pensioners happily married for 48 years!!! We dont get any unwanted calls now!!! Shirley

Evening all. This is one of my all time pet hates. I have been getting up to 6 of these calls a *day*!!!! Have always had number with-held calls barred, but they still get through. That's because the number isn't with-held. If I dial 1471, I get - the caller's number is not known' This, apparently, is different to number with-held, according to NTL, though they can't tell me what the difference is, and why they can still get through!!!! This has peed us both off so much lately, that hubby had our number changed last week and also went ex-directory. So far - so good, no calls! Debbie
