It drives me mad that the English are not proud to be English! It's seen as wrong. It's stupid how you can only have REAL pride in your country if your Welsh, Irish or Scottish (just talking about the UK here). What the hell is wrong with the English? Sorry it drives me mad that if you (a couple of years ago) fly the St George's cross you were thought to be BNP. But if you flew the Welsh flag (for example) it was great that you were so proud of your country. Any of this making sense to anyone?

Chloe, I have to be honest. I am equally proud to say I am British as well as Welsh. Come the match between England and France, I will be cheering for England - I would still rather see a British team win the six nations.

The powers that be should never have allowed the BNP or the NF to use Englands national flags, when they are flown for football etc its acceptable but when the moment has passed and you see cars and lorries flying the flag they take on the appearance of nazi staff cars in me own little umble opinion. Yes I agree with Les. I supported Scotland today in their match against France. But where I live lots of people hate England so I get made fun of. There seems to be this perception that English are cocky. I don't understand it. Still there are lots of nice people I know who are Scottish. :-) Lucia :-)

Ah Les, you must be one of the few Welsh men that would do that. All the Welsh people I knew at uni (went to uni in Bristol, so close to the border) all would cheer for whoever was playing against England. I used to be proud to be British, before English, but I'm not so anymore. Sick and tired of Wales, for example, getting a Welsh Assembly that deals with just Wales (especially the grants it gives for uni) but England ONLY has the British government. Not fair in my opinion. Same in N Ireland and Scotland. One rule for the others but not the same for the English. How can that be fair? If the Welsh, Scottish and Irish can be proud to be their nationality only then why can't I?

Lucia, I like your sentiment. As long as the rivalry remains friendly it is nice. When I look at my closest circle of friends most of them are English - and I'd trust them with my life.

Chloe - I actually voted against having a Welsh assembly. My view has always been that we are a part of the United Kingdom and should have remained so. How could Wales truly look after itself with only a population of just over 3 million. We might have a welsh assembly, but big decisions are still made in Westminster.

Yes, I am proud to be English. It does annoy me when the goverment make it non pc to be proud of England (2001 census) but it is OK to be Scottish, Welsh or Irish. That is a real bugbear that a lot of Scots and Welsh will support Englands oppositon but we are mad enough to will them on. Not anti British, but would rather say I am English. Ros

Ros, I think part of the problem is that common sense has gone out of the window and political correctness has now taken root. Fly your flag and stay proud m8!

Thanks for the views everyone As for the big decisions being made in Westminster. That is true..... but I still don't understand the supposed fairness of Welsh students going to English unis and getting grants, whereas their English peers don't have anything of the sort. I am in debt over my degree, a grant wouldn't have stopped this but it would have made it a lot less. I just don't like the fact that the UK don't give out grants, but the Welsh do to their own and the Scottish have a better system too. Ok moan over. ;-)

I am English (both my parents are English) However I was born in Greece and have always felt an affiliation with the country and the people. Have lived in England for 15 years and I still don't quite feel like I'm home. Becx
