Quick Question

GinN - Lovely photograph. When I was an apprentice at the shipyard I had to collect photographs from Turners in Pink Lane for the the Design office boss. Memories.

GP - it's good to reminesce about the old places in Tyneside. Did you ever get weighed in Grainger Market, sitting on the old chair? I see they have a more modern version now!

Superior Status

GinN - I never got weighed in a chair as my weight was ok for years. As you say they have a modern weighing machine installed and it is calibrated on a regular basis for accuracy. I love shopping in the market and have done for many years. Apart from buying meat, veg and fish I'm quite partial to a bit of cinder toffee. Do you still remember the Quayside on a Sunday morning ?

GP - yes, my grandad used to take me to the Quayside market most Sunday mornings. Sadly, he died when I was 8. He also used to take me on a rowing boat on Saltwell park lake, and even to the odd Gateshead football match!

Valid Vote

GinN - We hardly missed the quayside when I was a kid but sadly it is nearly all Indian stalls now. I also went rowing on Saltwell park lake and fished for tiddlers. The park received a 3 million pounds lottery grant and it has been restored to its Victorian splender with additional features and the concrete paddling pool has been removed. I was ball boy for a year or two at Gateshead football club in the 1950's and hardly missed a game. I was the one with GP on the back of my shirt :-D . I lived 3 streets away from the ground. My, it's a small world isn't it.

Wonderful World

GP - I spent the first year of my life In St. Cuthbert's Road, Bensham, my Grandparents house, and where my Nan lived until the street was demolished. Not that far from the football ground!
Only thing I remember about the matches was when one of the player's shorts fell down. Trust me! :-D :-D
