Hello everyone,

Many thanks for all your responses, the information you have been able to find is amazing. Please can you let me know how I obtain birth certificates from Ireland? If I can get hold of Richard's (thanks Erin) I could possibly track the parents down and see if they had a son called Thomas.

It is great to find out that Glenny is a very common name in the county, so it gives me a last a little hope of finding something. Thanks Aileen, I had found him on the 1871 Census, but hadn't looked for any more recent ones, so that is great.

Thanks for all the great website references, this is fabulous.

Hi Ann,

Yes that is him. I have 1 extra child who isn't listed here. 2 questions, where did you access the 1881 census? Also the second piece of information, what is that?

Sorry one more question, what does the CLK stand for at the end of the parents name?

Many thanks Rachael.

PS Sorry for the delay in responding, I couldn't see the reply for ages :-)

I have traced Thomas Glenny born circa 1845 back to Sligo, Ireland.
I have tried contacting the Sligo County WGW website and they can find no trace of him. I got the details of his place of birth from 1871 census, but he is not listed on 1861 census so I presume he came to England between these dates.

Family rumor is that the Glenny family originates in Scotland but due to a murder (unknown who committed it) they were banished to Ireland.

Can anyone offer advice on how I could proceed backwards?
