Paula,
Many thanks for your replies..... However I have already seen the Bexley Library document which does contain lots of useful information which I may well follow up on at some point.
With regard to the 1881 census, well these are indeed my relatives, mainly great aunts and uncles and of course, my great grand parents, Stephen and Amelia Cannon. It is the decendants of my great aunts and uncles that I am keen to find, and I believe that many of them still live in the north west Kent area. Having said that, I have already sent a message to someone who has my grand father in their family tree.

You might be able to find some info on Medway's on line parish records. Although it's mainly the Medway towns it covers some of NW Kent - Gravesend and surrounds.
It's a bit of a clunky site as it's sorted by church/area and is not indexed. But if you can pin down where they were living it's worth checking out what you can find. I've saved lots of money for some of my OH's tree on there and you get to see the actual marriage certs etc - with their signatures!

I am trying to trace any Cannon family relatives from the north west Kent area (mainly Bexley, Sutton at Hone and Shorne) who's family were involved in the flour milling business during the 1800's and early 1900's. I understand that the name of the business at the turn of the century was Cannon and Gaze, and they eventually had a flour mill in Erith in the early 1900's
Any information would be greatly appreciated
