There is no indication he remarried or passed away.

Your best bet is to try and contact relations of his brother.

It might be worth following up Reggie's suggestion re the Kings Own Royal Regiment (C&P both lines of the address)

http://www.forcesreunited.org.uk/namearchivelanding.asp?SE=namearchive&
KW=Kings%20Own%20Royal%20Regiment

Don't just ask to view someone's tree as you are more likely to be ignored - delete the default 'May I see your tree' and type an explanation of what you are hoping to find out.

You can always check to see if your message has been read by looking in your 'Sent Messages' tab. If it hasn't been read, then there will be an envelope icon next to it which disappears when the message has been opened. Unfortunately there are many abandoned trees on GR - the owners may have lost interest or even died.

jax Report 9 Jun 2013 01:19

It looks like Thomas had 3 children and if you search for him in the trees on here there is someone called Linda that has him in her tree (poss daughter)...membership number begins 101***** which is newer than the membership number she used for Henry so you would be more likely to get a reply

Is it possible that this is the Henry Dyer who adopted your father in the 1911 census with his own parents:-

1911 census transcription details for: 31 Great Queen St Dartford

National Archive Reference:
RG14PN3774 RG78PN143 RD43 SD3 ED12 SN172
Reg. District: Dartford
Sub District: Dartford
Parish: Dartford
Enum. District: 12

Address: 31 Great Queen St Dartford
County: Kent

Name Relation Condition/
Yrs married Sex Age Birth Year Occupation Where Born

DYER, Thomas Head Married M 44 1867 Millwright General Labourer Hoster
DYER, Susan Wife Married
19 years F 38 1873 Lancashire Barwick
DYER, Albert Victor Son Single M 18 1893 Mill Hand Calendar Kent Dartford
DYER, William Thomas Son Single M 14 1897 Shop Boy Camberwell
DYER, Charles George Son Single M 12 1899 School Kent Dartford
DYER, Henry Baden Son Single M 10 1901 School Kent Dartford<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I would put some of these names into the "search" at the top right of the screen and then click on "search all trees". You may find someone else on Genes has some of these people in their tree. You can then make direct contact with any of these people by clicking on their names.

EDIT - have just checked and there are three people who have a Henry Dyer born 1900 in Dartford in their trees.

Agree with Reggie - I've just done a 'pretend' order using the details given by Kathleen. It was accepted with out asking for the actual date of marriage.

After you’ve registered/logged in, the next page is asking for about certificate choice.
Find the section (2nd down) which says

*For overseas events which were registered with the British authorities:*

Click the Marriage Certificate (overseas events)
Para headed ‘for all events’
Tick ‘yes’ against ‘is the GRO Index Reference Number known?’
In the box below that type 1966

Then submit.

Next page
Mans surname – Dyer
Man’s forenames – Kenneth J P (because that’s what’s on the gro index)
GRO reference – volume F

Then carry on as per the instructions on the page
===
Its possible that your father wasn't born in England or Wales, or was adopted. Both reasons would explain why we can't can't find his birth.

You don't need dates when ordering on line from the GRO and quoting their references

Tracey Report 8 Jun 2013 21:55

The King's Own Royal Regiment was a Lancashire Regiment, which bore that name until 1959.........

..........thereafter, upon amalgamation with the Border Regiment, it became the King's Own Royal Border Regiment

Not seeing any info at all for him . His age at marriage would help

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 8 Jun 2013 21:01

You can only see what is on a marriage certificate from that sort of date by purchasing it. You can order online from here:-

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

It will cost £9. 25p

Make sure you specify "overseas marriages" and when the form asks if the full GRO reference is known make sure you tick the "yes" box.
