Anna Marie

You can apply for the your Mammy''s Birth Cert on line...(They are held in Roscommon not the NAI)

Her Birth was Reg.the Oct-Dec quarter 1939 Cork

https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

The Convent of the Good Shepherd was built on the land adjacent to St Finbarr's Industrial School hence it is known by St Finbarr's and the Good Shephard (Orphanage)….

Until you determine from the Original BC where exactly your mammy was born it will be difficult to work out what Parish and Church she would have been Baptised in.
Depending on which Church served the GS Orphanage she would have probably made her First Communion Confession Confirmation at St Finbarr's or St. Vincent's.

Anna Marie....

The Birth Cert. if the Original should show many more details than just "Cork"....

It would give Registration District....name of person parents /mothers name and occup. where and when born who was present at the Birth (I assume that was Kate Sheehan when you say Witness) and who Registered the Birth with date.

Until you can locate where in the Co.Cork Mary was born it will be difficult to locate her Baptismal Record....Normally a child would be Baptised within 2 weeks of being born.

You need to try and establish what relationship Mary Pyle had with the Sheehan's, for them to take in a child from Birth to aged 4 years and then place her in St Finbarr's is an unusual scenario.....

Anna Marie.....Is it definitely Shennan and not "Sheehan" on the Birth Cert..? What is the address...(you can PM me if you have it and don't want to post it on here).
Given the age of the child Mary and the fact you know she was placed in the Orphanage at Sundays Well...(Sisters of the Good Shepherd) it may be possible to get some info. through the Dept of Education ….I believe the records are held at Glanmire Co.Cork ….

Have you tried tracing her Baptismal Record.….?

The records (to the best of my knowledge) for the Good Shepherd Convent(Sunday's Well) were held (2013) at The Good Shepherd Sisters.

Have you established any relationship between Mary Pyle (1918) and Kate Shennan? And what was the place Kate took Mary to in 1944, although if indeed the Good Shepherds, Sunday Well, there is a lot of history there if you google it. Not much of it good.
