I’m trying to trace my mothers half sister. She was born in March 1957 in Pontypridd Wales Her name at birth was Denise A Cronin and her mother was Margarete A Cronin nee Kroger. They both returned to Germany shortly after Denise’s fathers death. His name was William French Cronin and he died in 1963.

Welcome to the boards, Sam.

I'm afraid that we in the UK won't be able to find any records of Denise if she remained in Germany.
It would need access to German records, which we don't have to any great extent.

Neither Denise nor her mother seem to be on any trees on GR or Ancestry, either.

Do you know where they lived in Germany?

What is Denise's middle name?

I am so grateful for your reply and useful information. This is new to me. I’m looking to find some living relatives for my mother. She and her brother didn’t meet my grandfather their father as he left them in India with my grandmother in approx 1942/43.
I have found out that his sister Christina Cronin (b 15.2.1913 d 2003) married Arthur James Alabaster in Willesden Middlesex in 1939. They had 2 children James C Alabaster b 1942 in Pontypridd and Christine A Alabaster b 1951 Pancras London. These would be my mothers cousins.
My mother has never even seen a picture of her father. She is 82 now and I would like her to find some relatives from her fathers side.
Many thanks again for all the info!

This must be your grandfather's birth:

Births Mar 1915
Cronin William F Evans Pontypridd 11a 1569

You should add his name to your tree on here.

Someone called Ann has Christina in a tree. You should try contacting her.

Christine 1951 may have married in Oxfordshire in 1977, but if so, the latest I can see a record of them is in 2007 in London, per Electoral Roll.
However, their address at that time has not been sold since, per Zoopla, so they may perhaps still be there - though they may only have been renting.

Find the possible marriage on FreeBMD:
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

then, once you have the surname, look at Electoral Rolls, under "Search" at top right of this page.

James C 1942 seems to have married in Buckinghamshire in 1965.
If so, they were in Lincolnshire in 2002, per ER.
They may have had two children in the late 1960s in Oxfordshire.
The younger one seems to have been living in Milton Keynes in 2011.

Ann, who Rose mentioned as having Christina in her tree, will be worth getting in touch with, if possible.
She also has James C 1942 in her tree, and his wife and younger daughter .
She doesn't have the older daughter - though she does have someone of the same name, born 3 years later, who is not Christina's daughter - maybe she's picked the wrong person with that name.
She also has the husband of Christine 1951.

Wow. So much information here! I didn’t expect this level of assistance…thank you so much!
There’s a lot to understand. I’ve been in contact with Ann and she can’t help me as there’s nothing she knows about Christina or her children.
The information given here is very interesting for me and I will attempt to follow the advice. Thank you once again to all.

There will probably be more questions to follow. Just have to find the time to follow all this up!

I have managed to find that James C Alabaster married Andrea J Crewe in 1965 and had 2 daughters Louise Ann in 1966 and Wendy Victoria in 1967. Does anyone know how I can trace them and how to eventually make contact?. Many thanks.

I’d like to say how grateful I am for the advice and assistance I’ve received here. This level of help has meant that I have found my mother’s cousin who was able to show her a photo of her father. She saw her father’s face for the first time on her 83rd birthday…I can’t think of a better birthday present.
We are now planning a ‘long lost’ family lunch. So thank you so much!
