Part of a PM from Jennifer - re the Lumby family:

Maybe this is the family in question but it is my grandma's family and I was led to believe it was granddad's family, Stacey or Moate.

Thank you fo all that you have posted, much of which I knew but some interesting new information. I'm not a paid member of Ancestry so only access free information. I will have to speak to my cousins when we all meet up again. It's been a while. I will keep on digging when I can find X marks the spot!

I appreciate all your efforts.
Jenny.

Yes, I noticed those on Ancestry. Graham Ivan Lumby died in Torbay.

Graham I Lumby
in the UK, Postal Service Appointment Books, 1737-1969
Name: Graham I Lumby
Appointed Date: May 1949
Appointed Place: Exeter Ta
Industry: Postal Service

Cyril's death was also in Torbay:

Deaths Dec 1982 (>99%)
LUMBY Cyril Edmund 16MY1915 Torbay 21 2490

There's this voyage. It's such an unusual name - I don't know if this is Nelyce Lumby remarried, presumably in Canada:

Nelyce Paget
in the UK and Ireland, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960
Name: Nelyce Paget
Arrival Age: 66
Birth Date: 1 Jan 1894
Port of Departure: Montréal, Québec, Canada
Arrival Date: 10 Jun 1960
Port of Arrival: Southampton, England
Ports of Voyage: Montreal and Quebec
Ship Name: Saxonia
Shipping Line: Cunard Steamship Company Ltd
Official Number: 8328/01

Travelling with Francis Paget (26/12/1884) - both married.
Going to 98 Morley Street, Heaton, Newcastle.

However, the return voyage a month later lists her as Gore, also married and travelling with Francis.

Don't know if Gore is a mistake, or if this woman is not Nelyce Lumby nee Abraham, but some other Nelyce.

Nelyce Gore
in the UK and Ireland, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960
Name: Nelyce Gore
Gender: Female
Departure Date: 21 Jul 1960
Departure Port: England
Ship Name: Saxonia
Shipping Line: Cunard Steam Ship Company, Limited
Destination Port: Montreal, Canada
Master: H Ibhalmer

Last address: 98 Morley Street, Newcastle.

???

Nelyce Paget
in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007
Name: Nelyce Paget
Death Age: 80
Birth Date: 1 Jan 1894
Registration Date: Jul 1974[Aug 1974] [Sep 1974]
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration District: Newcastle upon Tyne
Inferred County: Northumberland
Volume: 2
Page: 0647

Nelyce was born in Leeds as Nellie Abraham, and emigrated to Canada with her mother and siblings in 1913

Alberta, Canada, Marriages Index,1898-1942
Name Fred Lumley
Gender Male
Marriage Date 1914
Marriage Place Islay, Alberta, Canada
Spouse Nelyce A. Abram
Certificate Number
4648

Trees on Ancestry have some details correct, and some wrong, as usual.

They have Cyril Edmund Lumby and Graham Ivan Lumby as her sons, but claim that their father was Albert Abram, which clearly doesn't make sense.
They say that Nelyce died as Nelyce Abram - but quote the Paget death above.

The trees say she had four husbands, including Fred. Two of the marriages are private.

They say she had a son on 12 Dec 1912:

Births Mar 1913 (>99%)
Abram Malcolm Abram Leeds 9b 752

However, that child travels to Canada with his parents, Albert and Mrs A Abram in 1915 - so his mother cannot be Nelyce who married Fred in 1914.

Macolm Abram
in the UK and Ireland, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960
Name: Macolm Abram
Gender: Male
Departure Age: 2
Birth Date: abt 1913
Departure Date: 9 Apr 1915
Departure Port: England
Ship Name: Missanabie
Shipping Line: Canadian Pacific Railway
Destination Port: Halifax, Canada
Master: G C Evans

However, fascinating though it is to ramble through the records, it doesn't look as if this branch of the family had anyone who was training to be a nurse in the 1960s.

Edith M married in Nottinghamshire in 1966.
But there are no online travel records for her before that - so can't prove anything either way.

John D probably married in 1960 in Nottinghamshire.

All in all, it doesn't look as if the trainee nurse was a child or grandchild of your grandfather. (Except just possibly Edith M 1942 , or Iris L 1946.)

Which leaves the search wide open!

Rose and George had four children:

George 1935, Margaret R 1938, Joan A 1945, Iris L 1946.

George married in 1959 in Nottinghamshire.
Margaret married in 1957 in Nottinghamshire, so the trainee nurse can't be her..
Joan married in 1962 in Nottinghamshire - so not her.
Iris married in 1968 in Nottinghamshire, so probably not her either, unless about 1962-68.

Can't see any travel record - but such relatively recent records are mostly not online.

Have you looked to see if anyone has the family in their tree? Look at Search then search emebers trees.

Have you actually worked out a family tree yourself to see if you can identify family members that may have gone to Canada.?

I'm looking for relatives of my late Grandfather, John Stacey. He was born in Bothamsall, Notts and farmed at Milton, Notts. In the 1960s he was in touch with a relative in Canada but I was too young to take much notice except it was someone I believe was training as a nurse. This person could have been part of the Stacey, Moate or Lumby family. There is no-one left in my family who would have any information so I'm taking the chance that someone may be able to help.
Jenny.
