You would need to use scotlandspeople to find his death - doing a free search, there are 3 deaths recorded in Lanarkshire for his name and his year of birth. The death cert will show his parents, so if you look at the marriage cert as well, you will be able to confirm the correct death entry.

Funny about the varicose veins as they seem to run in the family

Do you anything about when he died?

Potty

Potty Report 26 Aug 2015 10:53

Well done, alviegal! I couldn't make out what the problem was with his leg.

alviegal Report 25 Aug 2015 18:03

The record Potty posted with dates for his discharge states that he is not likely to become an efficient soldier.

The reason being that he had 'very marked varicose veins on right leg.'

His wife and sons were living at 38 Granville Street, Kilbirnie?
Samuel born 25/11/08 in Glasgow.
Robinson born 24/04/13 in Radnor Park.

He was discharged under Para 392 (iii) (c) RR

This thread explains it very well

Thanks for that. I will see if I can search the 1871 census. You have given me a lot of info now. :-)

Have you got Samuel & Charlotte's marriage cert? That will give you his parents' names. You can view it scotlandspeople; you will need to buy credits, £7 for 30; 6 will let you see the cert.

I can only find Samuel with his father on the 1881 & 1891 censuses; possibly can find Samuel snr on the 1871.

Not sure which photo you mean, Rona. If it's the one next to my posts, that's me as a baby!

If you mean the wedding one on Ancestry, not your Samuel as that one was born 1936.

He enlisted on 15/8/1914 and was discharged on 2/12/1914 on medical grounds - a problem with a leg, but I can't make out the reason.

He had previously served with the Scottish Rifles - those records may be on FMP.

Hello Rona,

Which time frame are you asking about? You'll have to give us some idea of his date of birth so you can be helped. :-)
