My father Ernest Montgomery served on the Somme but is record say he didn't serve overseas please can someone tell me why his record would say this? thanks

When was your father born and did he have any middle name? Do you have his army number from the record you have found?

Are you sure you have found the correct army record as the name is not uncommon?

EDIT - After looking in "search all member trees" am I correct in thinking that your father was born 1897 in Bury?
