Trying to find which UK Hospital my late Grandfather died in after he
was gassed during the above War and was brought home to England.
He was originally from Birmingham and wanted his family there to know what had
happened to him. Unfortunately, my Grandmother did not arrive in time.
The official War records state he was born in Manchester,in fact he was born in
Aston Manor and left home and married my Grandmother in Manchester
and was living there when he enlisted. I would like to hear from any living
relatives, maybe as part of family history they wondered what happened to him after he left Brum.

The UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 for James Deakin seems to say that he died in Lincoln, but the death certificate should tell you more exactly.

The place of birth is given as Lowell, Birmingham

His place of residence is given as Manchester which is probably why he enlisted in Manchester. Maybe he was working in Manchester.

If he died in Service in England - that would have been classed as "Home" as opposed to abroad.

EDIT -

And that's the problem with 2 threads about the same person. On the other thread someone has posted the 1911 census, showing him living in Manchester.

Also posted there is the link for you to order his death certificate.

"Home" in terms of Military Records refers to Britain. It does not mean it was at his family's or his normal residence.
