You do not need the service number if you have the date of birth.

If you try ringing the MOD and give them the information you do have they may be able to help even without his service number.

When I got my father's and father-in-law's records I didn't have their numbers but still managed to get copies, although this was quite some years ago so things may be different now.

The fact that he has more than one forename will help.

The RAF has it's own catering trade.

At station level it's catering flight.

Service records after 1920 are still with the MOD. You can send for a copy at a cost of £30.

I am looking for information about the above, in particular, his WWII experience. He was probably a chef in service with the RAF. He lived in Montgomeryshire and probably joined up from there. I do not know at which recruiting centre. Maybe Shrewsbury? I do not know whether he would join the RAF direct or a catering corps and then be attached to an RAF flight, if that is the right word.
Can anyone help?
