Charles above died March 1915 details I have :-

War gratuity List paid to widow
I have ancestry but cannot find a SERVICE RECORD
GR says they have one from WO96 or is this information what I have already

He seems to have been attested for the militia - early territorials then joined the regular army. If you want more details let me know.

What else can you tell me, (I have his 1914 Mons Star.)
Why do his papers not come up with Ancestry who I have an account
possible diff join no, but should appear on a full name birth search etc.

Was his mother Rose Markham of Stour Lane, Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield? If so the record Pat mentioned is the right one.

He had two brothers called John Henry and George William.

Don't know why the army number is different.

Thanks for all info its where I had got too myself
I was just at a loss why I could not find his service records on Ancestry when other sites kept showing one existed but that now has been confirmed as Militia record,
his later papers most likely lost.
