Tug of war -

It is thought Tug of War could be the oldest of the Inter-Services Sports competitions, with the RAF competing against the Army and Navy 100 years ago in 1918.

Hi Argyllgran
That's about where I have got too as well.
Just cannot PROVE a link to the Medal listing Ernest
( just the first page of a service record would have confirmed this ie-
age & place of birth.)
Military Police then Special Constable seems quite likely its him?
Many thanks for your reply and for looking him up.
Yours Ken Markham

JUST FOUND THE PROOF
Gainsborough Police 1920
Roll of Honour
It names lots of officers who served in WW1
it then list Sergt Ernest Markham & others who served with Military Mounted Police
and all returned home safely
That means after 1911 census he joined the lincs Police.
New research leads !!!
Ken.
