Looking for Uncles ship in Navy

I am trying to find out which ship my uncle Eric Dyer served on from 1939 -1945, he lived in Exeter before joining the Navy in 1939, he would have been aged 15.
On his gravestone in New Zealand, where he died in 1984 there is a plaque which says:
NX605. Eric F Dyer 1939-45 R.N. Can Assist

I just cannot find out which ship he served on.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful

Documents for those serving post 1920 are still with the MOD.

You will need their death cert. costs £30.00.

It actually says CANT. ASST. - not CAN ASSIST.

Not that that helps!
If it's an RN rank, the nearest I can see is CT.ASST. (Canteen assistant). - though that's in a WW1 list:

He was a builders labourer in 1950 when he went to Australia (from an Exeter address):

ArgyllGran, I knew about the passenger list to Australia, but thanks for looking for me. It is just the ship he was on during the war I wanted to know, I am sure I will find out from someone at some point. It’s an intriguing thing this family history.
