Does anyone know what the rules are for applying for a relatives war record? I know I would have to pay for it.

I want to get a copy of my grandfathers WW2 record but all his children are living. Would I be able to apply or would my father or one of his siblings have to do it as the first living generation?

It's all according to how long your grandfather has been dead Tawny.

Death over 25 yrs and anyone can apply.

Death under 25 yrs next of kin or with the permission of next of kin.

Death cert required, you do not need service number if you have date of birth

Thank you Pat. My grandfather died in 1978 so I’ll be able to apply. I have his date of birth and death certificate.
