MILITARY DOCUMENTS PAST 1920

From 1920 the documents are with MOD.

You will have to pay £30.00

Death over 25 yrs ago and anyone can apply.

Death under 25 yrs next of kin or with the permission of next of kin.

Death cert required, you do not need service number if you have date of birth

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/request-records-of-deceased-service-personnel

The RAF started 1st April 1918 and with his birth around 1912 he must have served after 1920.

Hope this helps you

Pat

A full record would show all his postings and detachments is that on Fold 3 or is it just general information?

The MOD documents are there because of the hundred year rule. Perhaps because of his birth year they may have been released but it should contain lots of info re his service.

I don't know the answer to that, Pat. You may well be right.

It might be worth Debra's while trying the Fold3 route first, just because it's free, and then applying to the MOD if Fold3 doesn't give much information

If you do the free trial Debra remember to cancel it as soon as you have the info as they will start taking money at the end of the offer. Many have been caught out. Seen lots of complaints on forums.

Maddie Report 16 Jun 2020 14:29

the record is on fmp and consists of 1 page

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 16 Jun 2020 14:37

Very likely only attestation paper then, that's the form filled out when you join - no service details on it.

I may be wrong but 1 page just doesn't sound correct for a full service record, warrant officer is a very senior rank.

Maddie Report 16 Jun 2020 14:48

could be but has quite a bit of detail but would take me too long to type out
in 1927 with rasc corp
entry into raf 14.9 1928
his description
relatives
employment detais
no discharge date

That's looks like all the info from an attestation form.
