Suggest an IT help board thread

I suggested in the office that we have an IT help thread on the boards.
It is a completely seperate issue and can at times become quite technical.

This could include help about FH software as well.

Don't very often mention all my IT qualification - granny are not suppose to know anything technical.

I did ask the question why some of the customer services staff suggest changing ones bowser to Chrome.
That as far as I'm aware that website are suppose to test for quirks against all browers & grades/operating systems - also taking into account disabilitiy issues.

They confirmed that they do.
However, was told that they no longer check Explorer 6 or earlier.

Estelle said that members should report any staff who suggests a member changes their browser to Chrome or say they need to update.
:-D :-D :-D

NS, "Estelle said that members should report any staff who suggests a member changes their browser to Chrome or say they need to update"

That would be 99% of GR staff then

Oh dear another case of not reading the boards or putting comments in the right place

See Suggestion - General by GR Team. The thread for making suggestions about this site on this very board.

25 August 2012 I raised the following:

A new board perhaps called Computer Help or Technology Help

Threads on General Chat get lost if any one needs help with their computer or TV etc

Sorry GB - I write as I think about things - don't have time to check what has gone before or even think about looking. What has past has past.
Anyway they haven't implimented the idea so a reminder won't hurt in any way.

:-D :-D :-D

Do you mean an IT help 'board' (Not thread) ?

This would cost money, as in an IT 'Geek' at GR would need to manage the project........that's not going to happen!

I have had lots of help from members, I post 'IT Help Needed'

Sylvia, nobody seems to check whether a suggestion has been made before. You only have to look at the number of suggestion threads about error messages to see that.

SylviaInCanada Report 5 May 2013 23:12

That's true, Ken

I suppose it is only the very regular users of the GR Boards who have a "memory" of having seen a thread on a certain subject.

I know I started an Error threads a few weeks ago ........... but I did preface it by saying "I know there are other Error threads ..................."

SylviaInCanada I am going to report you.
You just can't tell me what to do - what to write - how to write it - then turn around and insult my dyslexia.

In England there are laws which make some of your statements criminal.

It is getting out of hand

You have my support.

There is no excuse for any poster to belittle another.

Unfortunately there are some long serving members who believe it is their job to police the boards in the absence of GR.

Thankfully, these are few and far between with most posters being constructive and helpful in their replies.

Unfortunately you can't read this thread in isolation, which is a shame. NS has received many constructive and helpful replies lately - she prefers to ignore or berate the poster.

Unfortunately you can't read this thread in isolation either, which is also a shame. NS has made many constructive and helpful postings lately - for which she is ignored or berated by the 'long serving board police' who seem to think they rule the roost.

It works both ways....!

Thank you for that. Some people keep coming in at the tail end of some posts when the original post and any explanation gets refered. The result being that people don't know what is going on and formulate an opinion that is just completely wrong.

I don't blame nameslessone, she has come in late and has formulated her opinion from the air as far as I am concerned. I have no reason to apologise.
It is touching that I keep receiving pm's saying things simular to what you have written.

I said that I was going to report SylviaInCanada's last post - before I had chance somebody has already done it. Thank you to person unknown

No NS, I may appear to have 'come in late' but I've been reading these threads of yours for some time.
It was exasperation that made me start posting on them.
Yes, I have formulated an opinion, just as every one else has - one way or another.

No one can have everything their own way - except you it seems. Having said that, I am well aware that you have written some useful threads and I commend you for stating that it was not you that reported Sylviaincanadas post. Although I don't believe there was anything actually contentious in it.

Re the OP suggestion, there are apparently two IT experts on this thread?...if either or both feel a dedicated 'help thread' is needed why don't they just start one on a board and ask GR to sticky it?

NS .....................

I had no intention of insulting your dyslexia ..............

in fact I had no idea you were dyslexic, so how could I insult it?!

I am sorry that you have that problem ............

............. I have a husband who has similar problems, and have had dealings with many dyslexic people, including others on this site.

I also know how my OH has dealt with it ........................ he very carefully reads and re-reads every single thing that he writes.

This "trick" allowed him to pursue an extremely successful scientific career for many years, without help from anyone else.

May I suggest that you try that, instead of writing and posting items very quickly.

To finish ..............

I would never dream of insulting anyone with a medical problem............... and I am insulted that you would even think that.

But then you don't know me.

It might have been better to ask me instead of assuming.

Then I could have apologised to you ............... both on this thread and by pm.
